Day 49

Practice: 2 hours, Rehearsal: 2.5, Concert: 1.  Got the opportunity to play second to my teacher here and learned so so much from the experience.  Notable soloists from today’s concert:  Elaine Douvas, oboe solo in the second movement of the Barber Violin Concerto, Joaquin Valdepeñas, clarinet solos throughout the Barber, John Zirble, horn solos throughout Mahler 5, and Tom Hooten, trumpet solos in Mahler 5.  I just don’t think I’ve ever heard finer trumpet playing!  It was an incredibly inspiring concert, all across the board.  I went to my quintet rehearsal after it just feeling revved up from all the great playing still in my ears.
